This graphic, originally published in the Plain Dealer Sunday Magazine in October 2005, gave an overview of how an industrial water purifier works. The system was capable of cleaning 50,000 gallons of Mississippi River water a day. Kinetico Inc. sent the machine to St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
